Attractions

Atlanta biggest Attraction-the giant pandas- are on loan from Beijing, China. They are one of only three zoos to have pandas. Visit them in their new $17 million dollar habitat. Purchase "timed" tickets at the front gate to see them.

This is an old zoo built in 1889. It is part of a larger park system, called Grant Park, which was designed by Olmstead, who also designed Central Park, Piedmont Park and Golden Gate Park.

The most poplular exhibits are the gowns belonging to many First Ladies, from Dolley Madison to Rosalynn Carter.

There are also lovely Japanese Gardens on the premise. Dining at ther cafe offers a splendid view.

Nature takes center stage. Walk the forest trails. Take in a star show at the planetarium. View the heaven with the world's largest telelscope for public use. Insie the museum houses dinosaur remains and exhibits on native birds.
The fox Theatre the rage of it's day. Saved formthe wrecking ball in the 1970s. Now completely restored, the Fox theatre thrives again with Broadway shows, concerts, ballets and fil festivals performing almost every night. Takes the tour that lets you see it all, offered by the Atlanta Preservation Center, you'll be suprised.

Summers at Piedmont Park are great fun. Simplu rent your in-line skates, bicycle, or skateboard from Skate Escape across the street and have a blast at Piedomnt Park.

The Park features free symphony concerts, art festivals, and marathons. It also hostssuper popular annual festivals like the Atlanta Dogwood Festival in mid-April (404-329-0501) and the Atlanta Jazz Festival in May (404-817-6861).

Often claimed as Georgia's most popluar attraction, Stone Mountain, the world's largets mass of exposed granite is over 800 feet high. You have to see it to understand it. Hike the 1.3 miles trail to the top for a breath taking view. Or take the tram, built for the 1996 Olympic games. The view is amazing.
The High Museum of Art's striking white building amkes it own artistic impression. Know as "one of the ten best works of american arrchitechure of the 1980s." See why

Holds collections significant tot he 19th and 20th century American are, folk art, decorative art, and english ceramics. Also frequently hosts major traveling exhibits worth seeing.

A 45minutes behind the scens tour that takes you into news in the making. Begin by stepping onto the world's longest elevator; it tops out 8 stories later. You'll find this tour a high point in more ways than one.

A more indepth tour is available for $25. but it requires reservations amde a day ahead of time.

Over a hundred rides.

The big daddy is the Georgia Scorcher, one of the Southeast's tallest and fastest stand-up roller coasters. About a dozen other coasters are here to tempt you. Six Flags recently unveiled the Deja Vu, a boomerang roller coaster, and Acrophobia, a 200-foot, rotating tower-drop ride. But its biggest attraction is Superman, the South's only coaster in which riders are suspended in a flying position. Also check out Viper's 360 degree loop, the Ninja's corkscrews, Mindbender's triple loop, the Freefall's 10-story drop and the Great Gasp's 20-story drop.

Founded in 1976, this 15-acre expanse of natural wonder is located adjacent to Piedmont Park. A hardwood forest intertwined with walking trails surrounds the Fuqua Conservatory, which houses a Japanese garden, rock garden, and displays of flora from all over the globe. In addition to the Southeast's most comprehensive showing of indigenous plants, the conservatory maintains an amazing collection of carnivorous specimens and roses. Moonlight garden walks and seasonal shows are also sponsored. Admission is USD10 adults; USD7 seniors; USD5 children; children under 3 free

Too much of a good thing? Not at Atlanta's biggest mall. Rich's, Neiman Marcus, plus 230 other specialty stores. Across the street Phipps's Plaa upscale stores make for more fun. Valet Parking available

Historic Virginia Highland is Atlanta's most popular neighborhood for shopping, dining and nightlife. Developed in the early 1900's, it consists of six distinct commercial "villages" alternating with short, walkable blocks of charming bungalow homes. The neighborhood's name derives from the intersection of Virginia and Highland Avenues.

Weekend brunched are the big draw to this Candler Park Icon,located 1/2 from Laurel Hill. The brunched attract crowds that are happy to mill about the neighborhood for an hour or more, coffee cups in hand, waiting for a table and exploring the funcky shops.

They also serve lunch and dinner, anc choices include healthy burritos, fresh fish specials, and meatloaf with well seasoned mash potatoes called "pudge" The bakery next door sells coffee drinks and a wide variety of breakfast pastries.
